Radial Gravel Stacker for Imperial Technologies

Bulk handling is big business. Whether moving tons of sand, grain, crushed rock or coal, the need for power is  great, the equipment is large, and the engineering involved can be complex. Innovative design and well-built equipment are a must. So when Imperial Technologies was designing a new radial stacker for a customer in Alabama, they turned to Thern.

A radial stacker is a conveyor that sits on a wheeled truck which runs on a railed track that forms a radius semi-circle around the stacker. The advantage of the radial stacker is that it gives the operator the option to create many multiple stacks of material or one continuous radial stack. The stacker pivots at one end with the other end able to be raised and lowered.

For this project, a Thern 4WS26M26 electric winch with 19,800-pound load capacity, severe-duty brake motor and three-coat epoxy finish for all-weather protection was employed. It is positioned above the conveyor belt near the pivoting end of the stacker and raises and lowers the grade of the stacker at the opposite end. Spooled with 600 feet of wire rope and utilizing a series of eight sheaves, Imperial effectively creates an 8-line lift with one winch and cable.

FROM THE CUSTOMER:

“Thern aided in the success of the project with a timely response for calculations of cable and winch sizes as design parameters were refined. The equipment met our customer’s expectations. I would not hesitate to turn to Thern on our next project.”
