Tough Winches for the Really Tough Jobs

Heavy-duty Thern winches deliver the power and durability to do the tough jobs year after year. With a large number of standard configurations and the ability to quickly build-to-order, you can turn to Thern with confidence.

Series 4WS Winches for Lifting and Pulling
Up to 6,500 lb capacity in standard models

115/230 volt single phase, or 230/460 volt three phase, 60 cycle, flange mounted, TEFC, reversible, class B insulated, brakemotor rated for continuous duty in ambient temperatures up to 104Æ F (40Æ C). Standard motors comply with relevant standards including NEMA MG1, ANSI, and CSA.

Brakemotor with spring set, electrically released disc brake is standard. Other brakes available.

Worm and spur gears are hardened for durability. Worm gears operate in an oil bath enclosed in high strength die cast 380 aluminum alloy gearcase. Double lip oil seals keep oil in and contaminants out. Corrosion resistant construction and large capacity bearings ensure long life. Worm gear reducer meets AGMA standards. Gearing is 65 to 85% efficient. Low backdrive efficiency improves load control in lifting applications.

Self aligning flange style ball bearings with cast housing maintain smooth drum rotation.

Drum includes outside flange anchors to allow uniform winding and help extend wire rope life.

Fabricated frame captures both ends of drum shaft for added security, and is easily altered for modified drum widths.

Clutch option allows the drum to freespool for rapid pay out of wire rope. Use clutch models for horizontal pulling only.

Motor options include: air or hydraulic; voltage or phase changes; class F or H insulated; multispeed motors; or special ratings including IEEE 45 Marine Duty, Tropical Duty, Severe Duty, and Explosion Proof.

Control options include: drum control switches for up to 7.5 hp; 115 volt single phase controls with 8 ft. power cord and grounded plug; pendant control switch on 6 ft. cord for 115 volt single phase models up to 1 hp; or NEMA 4 rated Electric Motor Controls with pendant control on up to 50 foot cord. See controls for more information. (link to page 13)

Standard winch is designed for base mounting, easily altered for wall or ceiling installation.

Standard options and modifications include: cable pressure bars, limit switches, manual overrides, grooved drums, multiple compartment drums, modified drum widths or diameters, and special finishes for protection in harsh or hazardous environments. See options and modifications for more information. (link to page 15)

ANSI B30.7 compliance availabe. If you require compliance with ANSI B30.7, please contact the factory with complete application information.

Wire rope and controls sold separately. See controls and wire rope for more information.
